महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-8, verse-23

नाधनो धर्मकृत्यानि यथावदनुतिष्ठति ।
धनाद्धि धर्मः स्रवति शैलाद्गिरिनदी यथा ॥२३॥
23. nādhano dharmakṛtyāni yathāvadanutiṣṭhati ,
dhanāddhi dharmaḥ sravati śailādgirinadī yathā.
23. na adhanaḥ dharmakṛtyāni yathāvat anutiṣṭhati
dhanāt hi dharmaḥ sravati śailāt girinadī yathā
23. adhanaḥ dharmakṛtyāni yathāvat na anutiṣṭhati

23. One who lacks wealth cannot properly perform the duties prescribed by natural law (dharma). Indeed, natural law (dharma) flows from wealth, just as a mountain river flows from a mountain.
