महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-133, verse-10

पितेव हि नृपोऽस्माकमभूच्छांतनवः पुरा ।
विचित्रवीर्यो राजर्षिः पाण्डुश्च कुरुनन्दनः ॥१०॥
10. piteva hi nṛpo'smākamabhūcchāṁtanavaḥ purā ,
vicitravīryo rājarṣiḥ pāṇḍuśca kurunandanaḥ.
10. pitā iva hi nṛpaḥ asmākam abhūt śāntanavaḥ purā
vicitravīryaḥ rājarṣiḥ pāṇḍuḥ ca kurunandanaḥ
10. Indeed, in the past, Śāntanu was our king, like a father to us. Then there was Vicitravīrya, the royal sage, and Pāṇḍu, the delight of the Kurus.
