योगवासिष्ठः yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-4, chapter-29, verse-14

कथं सुरा जगत्यस्मिन्भवाम इति चिन्तया ।
विवशा दीनतां जग्मुः पद्मा इव निरम्भसः ॥ १४ ॥

kathaṃ surā jagatyasminbhavāma iti cintayā ,
vivaśā dīnatāṃ jagmuḥ padmā iva nirambhasaḥ 14

14. katham surāḥ jagati asmin bhavāma iti cintayā |
vivaśāḥ dīnatām jagmuḥ padmāḥ iva nirambhasaḥ ||

14. asmin jagati katham surāḥ bhavāma iti cintayā vivaśāḥ [te] dīnatām jagmuḥ,
nirambhasaḥ padmāḥ iva

14. Preoccupied with the thought, 'How can we become gods in this world?' they became helpless and fell into wretchedness, just like lotuses without water.
