मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-88, verse-45

पुनश्च वज्रपातेन क्षतमस्य शिरो यदा ।
ववाह रक्तं पुरुषास्ततो जाताः सहस्रशः ॥४५॥
45. punaśca vajrapātena kṣatamasya śiro yadā .
vavāha raktaṃ puruṣāstato jātāḥ sahasraśaḥ.
45. punaḥ ca vajrapātena kṣatam asya śiraḥ yadā
vavāha raktam puruṣāḥ tataḥ jātāḥ sahasraśaḥ
45. And again, when his head was wounded by a blow from a thunderbolt, blood flowed, and from that, men (puruṣa) were born in thousands.
