महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-65, verse-17

आरावं परमं कृत्वा वध्यमानाः किरीटिना ।
निपेतुरनिशं भूमौ छिन्नपक्षा इवाद्रयः ॥१७॥
17. ārāvaṁ paramaṁ kṛtvā vadhyamānāḥ kirīṭinā ,
nipeturaniśaṁ bhūmau chinnapakṣā ivādrayaḥ.

nipetuḥ aniśam bhūmau chinnapakṣāḥ iva adrayaḥ

17. As they were being slain by Arjuna (Kirīṭin), those elephants let out a mighty roar, and then continuously fell to the ground, like mountains whose wings had been clipped.
