महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-155, verse-19

उत्कृत्य कवचं यस्मात्कुण्डले विमले च ते ।
प्रादाच्छक्राय कर्णो वै तेन वैकर्तनः स्मृतः ॥१९॥
19. utkṛtya kavacaṁ yasmātkuṇḍale vimale ca te ,
prādācchakrāya karṇo vai tena vaikartanaḥ smṛtaḥ.

prādāt śakrāya karṇaḥ vai tena vaikartanaḥ smṛtaḥ

19. Because Karna, having cut off his armor and those two immaculate earrings, indeed gave them to Indra, he is therefore remembered as Vaikartana.
