महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-98, verse-16

यदि शूरस्तथा क्षेमे प्रतिरक्षेत्तथा भये ।
प्रतिरूपं जनाः कुर्युर्न च तद्वर्तते तथा ॥१६॥

16. yadi śūrastathā kṣeme pratirakṣettathā bhaye ,
pratirūpaṁ janāḥ kuryurna ca tadvartate tathā.

16. If a hero protects both in times of well-being and in times of danger, people should respond in kind; but that is not how it happens.
