श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
एतत्ते कथितं सर्वं मयाख्यानमनिन्दितम् ।
कर्कट्या हिमराक्षस्या यथावदनुपूर्वशः ॥ १ ॥

etatte kathitaṃ sarvaṃ mayākhyānamaninditam ,
karkaṭyā himarākṣasyā yathāvadanupūrvaśaḥ 1

aninditam | karkaṭyā himarākṣasyā yathāvat anupūrvaśaḥ ||

1. Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: 'All this blameless narrative concerning Karkaṭī, the ice demoness, has been told by me to you, precisely and in due order.'
