योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-1, chapter-22, verse-12

गर्धोऽभ्युदेति सोल्लासमुपभोक्तुं न शक्यते ।
हृदयं दह्यते नूनं शक्तिदौस्थ्येन वार्धके ॥ १२ ॥
gardho'bhyudeti sollāsamupabhoktuṃ na śakyate ,
hṛdayaṃ dahyate nūnaṃ śaktidausthyena vārdhake 12
12. gardhaḥ abhyudeti saullāsam upabhoktum na śakyate
hṛdayam dahyate nūnam śakti-dausthyena vārdhake
12. gardhaḥ saullāsam abhyudeti upabhoktum na śakyate
nūnam hṛdayam śakti-dausthyena vārdhake dahyate
12. Greed (gardha) arises with delight, yet it cannot be enjoyed. Surely, the heart (hṛdaya) is burned by the weakness (dausthya) of strength (śakti) in old age (vārdhaka).
