वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-7, chapter-17, verse-23

ततो वेदवती क्रुद्धा केशान् हस्तेन साच्छिनत् ।
उवाचाग्निं समाधाय मरणाय कृतत्वरा ॥२३॥
23. tato vedavatī kruddhā keśān hastena sācchinat ,
uvācāgniṃ samādhāya maraṇāya kṛtatvarā.

23. Then, enraged, Vedavati cut off her hair with her hand. Having concentrated on the fire and eager to embrace death, she spoke.
