वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-7, chapter-17, verse-12

दातुमिच्छति धर्मात्मा तच्छ्रुत्वा बलदर्पितः ।
शम्भुर्नाम ततो राजा दैत्यानां कुपितो ऽभवत् ।
तेन रात्रौ प्रसुप्तो मे पिता पापेन हिंसितः ॥१२॥
12. dātumicchati dharmātmā tacchrutvā baladarpitaḥ ,
śambhurnāma tato rājā daityānāṃ kupito'bhavat ,
tena rātrau prasupto me pitā pāpena hiṃsitaḥ.

12. My father, a righteous soul (dharmātmā), wished to give (her hand in marriage). Having heard this, Shambhu, the king of the demons (daityas), arrogant with power, became enraged. By that wicked one, my father was killed while asleep at night.
