वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-2, chapter-103, verse-3

पिता ह्येनं जनयति पुरुषं पुरुषर्षभ ।
प्रज्ञां ददाति चाचार्यस्तस्मात् स गुरुरुच्यते ॥३॥
3. pitā hyenaṃ janayati puruṣaṃ puruṣarṣabha ,
prajñāṃ dadāti cācāryastasmāt sa gururucyate.

prajñām dadāti ca ācāryaḥ tasmāt saḥ guruḥ ucyate

3. Indeed, the father begets this person (puruṣa), O best among men. And the preceptor imparts wisdom. Therefore, he (the preceptor) is called a revered teacher (guru).
