अहोरात्रकृतं पापमेतच्छमयते श्रुतम् ।

By listening to this, one would be freed if one were to face calamity, and would attain great fame. This narration, which is the greatness (māhātmya) of the primordial deity (ādideva), Mārtaṇḍa, the great-souled one (mahātman), mitigates the sin (pāpam) committed day and night.
