महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-27, verse-5

किं नु संशप्तकान्हन्मि स्वान्रक्षाम्यहितार्दितान् ।
इति मे त्वं मतं वेत्थ तत्र किं सुकृतं भवेत् ॥५॥
5. kiṁ nu saṁśaptakānhanmi svānrakṣāmyahitārditān ,
iti me tvaṁ mataṁ vettha tatra kiṁ sukṛtaṁ bhavet.
5. kim nu saṃśaptakān hanmi svān rakṣāmi ahitārditān
iti me tvam matam vettha tatra kim sukṛtam bhavet
5. nu kim saṃśaptakān hanmi ahitārditān svān rakṣāmi
iti me matam tvam vettha tatra kim sukṛtam bhavet
5. "What indeed should I do? Should I slay the Saṃśaptakas, or should I protect my own men who are tormented by enemies? You know this dilemma (matam) of mine. In that situation, what good (sukṛta) would come about?"
