महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-256, verse-22

गतसत्त्वमिव ज्ञात्वा कर्तारमशुभस्य तम् ।
संप्रेक्ष्य भरतश्रेष्ठः कृपां चक्रे नराधिपः ॥२२॥
22. gatasattvamiva jñātvā kartāramaśubhasya tam ,
saṁprekṣya bharataśreṣṭhaḥ kṛpāṁ cakre narādhipaḥ.

22. Having thoroughly observed him, the perpetrator of wickedness, and perceiving him to be as if lifeless and utterly demoralized, Yudhishthira, the best of the Bhāratas and king of men, felt compassion.
