महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-11, chapter-11, verse-5

स गङ्गामनु वृन्दानि स्त्रीणां भरतसत्तम ।
कुररीणामिवार्तानां क्रोशन्तीनां ददर्श ह ॥५॥
5. sa gaṅgāmanu vṛndāni strīṇāṁ bharatasattama ,
kurarīṇāmivārtānāṁ krośantīnāṁ dadarśa ha.

kurarīṇām iva ārtānām krośantīnām dadarśa ha
5. bharatasattama sa gaṅgām anu ārtānām krośantīnām

5. O best of the Bharatas, along the Ganga, he saw indeed flocks of women, distressed and crying out like curlews.
