महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-10, chapter-10, verse-22

न हि प्रमत्तेन नरेण लभ्या विद्या तपः श्रीर्विपुलं यशो वा ।
पश्याप्रमादेन निहत्य शत्रून्सर्वान्महेन्द्रं सुखमेधमानम् ॥२२॥
22. na hi pramattena nareṇa labhyā; vidyā tapaḥ śrīrvipulaṁ yaśo vā ,
paśyāpramādena nihatya śatrū;nsarvānmahendraṁ sukhamedhamānam.
22. na hi pramattena nareṇa labhyā
vidyā tapaḥ śrīḥ vipulam yaśaḥ vā |
paśya apramādena nihatya śatrūn
sarvān mahendram sukham edhamānam
22. hi pramattena nareṇa vidyā tapaḥ
śrīḥ vā vipulam yaśaḥ na labhyā
apramādena sarvān śatrūn nihatya
sukham edhamānam mahendram paśya
22. Indeed, knowledge, spiritual austerity (tapas), glory, or vast fame cannot be attained by a negligent person. Observe Mahendra (Indra), who, by diligently (apramāda) destroying all his enemies, thrives in happiness.
