कोपं कुर्यात्किमर्थं वा कौरवान्कोपयेत सः ।
धर्म इत्येव कुप्येत तथान्ये कुरुपुंगवाः ॥२२॥

22. api ceha pradagdheṣu bhīṣmo'smāsu pitāmahaḥ ,
kopaṁ kuryātkimarthaṁ vā kauravānkopayeta saḥ ,
dharma ityeva kupyeta tathānye kurupuṁgavāḥ.

"Even if we were burned here, why would Grandfather Bhīṣma become angry with us? And for what reason would he anger the Kauravas? He would only become angry on account of righteousness (dharma), and so would other foremost Kuru warriors."
