मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
स तेन पितृवाक्येन भृशमुद्विग्नमानसः ।
कन्याभिलाषी विप्रर्षिः परिबभ्राम मेदिनीम् ॥१॥

Mārkaṇḍeya said, "He, the brahmin-sage (viprarṣi), with his mind greatly agitated by those words of his ancestors (pitṛ), and desiring a maiden, wandered across the earth."
