विपश्चिदुवाच ।
कस्मिंश्चिदन्यत्र जगत्यपूर्वे दृष्टं मयेदं श्रृणु किं विचित्रम् ।
महाघवृत्तान्तदशासमानमविद्ययान्धेन बलात्कृतं यत् ॥ १ ॥

The wise one said: "Listen! I witnessed something extraordinary elsewhere in an unprecedented world. How strange it was: a situation that was forcefully brought about by a blind (being) and by ignorance (avidyā), akin to the state of a grave misfortune."
