वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-7, chapter-4, verse-1

श्रुत्वागस्त्येरितं वाक्यं रामो विस्मयमागतः ।
पूर्वमासीत्तु लङ्कायां रक्षसामिति संभवः ॥१॥
1. śrutvāgastyeritaṃ vākyaṃ rāmo vismayamāgataḥ ,
pūrvamāsīttu laṅkāyāṃ rakṣasāmiti saṃbhavaḥ.

| pūrvam āsīt tu laṅkāyām rakṣasām iti saṃbhavaḥ

1. Upon hearing the words spoken by Agastya, Rama was struck with wonder: "Was this indeed the origin of the rakshasas in Lanka previously?"
