महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-9, chapter-5, verse-17

यं पुरस्कृत्य सहिता युधि जेष्याम पाण्डवान् ।
गुरुपुत्रोऽद्य सर्वेषामस्माकं परमा गतिः ।
भवांस्तस्मान्नियोगात्ते कोऽस्तु सेनापतिर्मम ॥१७॥
17. yaṁ puraskṛtya sahitā yudhi jeṣyāma pāṇḍavān ,
guruputro'dya sarveṣāmasmākaṁ paramā gatiḥ ,
bhavāṁstasmānniyogātte ko'stu senāpatirmama.

17. (Duryodhana said:) "Having placed whom at our forefront, we, united, shall conquer the Pāṇḍavas in battle? Now, you, the son of our guru (Aśvatthāman), are the supreme refuge (gati) for all of us. Therefore, by your appointment, who should be my commander-in-chief?"
