महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-6, chapter-87, verse-16

भिन्नकुम्भान्विरुधिरान्भिन्नगात्रांश्च वारणान् ।
अपश्याम महाराज वध्यमानान्निशाचरैः ॥१६॥
16. bhinnakumbhānvirudhirānbhinnagātrāṁśca vāraṇān ,
apaśyāma mahārāja vadhyamānānniśācaraiḥ.

16. mahārāja,

16. O great king, we saw elephants whose temples were fractured, who were bleeding, and whose bodies were shattered, being slain by the Rākṣasas (night-wanderers).
