A kṣatriya who has studied the Vedas, carefully arranged the sacrificial fires, performed Vedic rituals (yajña), and protected his subjects, whose inner self (ātman) is purified by weapons, if slain in battle for the sake of cows and brāhmaṇas, attains heaven.
