O Sanjaya, King Dhritarashtra, devoted to his son—that unmanageable, unbeneficial, ever-wrathful, friend-betraying, and evil-minded (pāpabuddhi) son—even though he clearly perceived [the truth], abandoned both natural law (dharma) and righteous material pursuit (kāma).
