महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-118, verse-25

नृशंसगुणभूयिष्ठं पुरा कर्म कृतं मया ।
स्मृत्वा तदनुतप्येऽहं त्यक्त्वा प्रियमिवात्मजम् ॥२५॥
25. nṛśaṁsaguṇabhūyiṣṭhaṁ purā karma kṛtaṁ mayā ,
smṛtvā tadanutapye'haṁ tyaktvā priyamivātmajam.

tat anutapye aham tyaktvā priyam iva ātmajam

25. A deed full of cruel qualities was done by me in the past. Remembering that, I repent, just as if I had abandoned a beloved son.
