महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-117, verse-11

न हि प्राणात्प्रियतरं लोके किंचन विद्यते ।
तस्माद्दयां नरः कुर्याद्यथात्मनि तथा परे ॥११॥

11. na hi prāṇātpriyataraṁ loke kiṁcana vidyate ,
tasmāddayāṁ naraḥ kuryādyathātmani tathā pare.

11. Indeed, nothing dearer than life (prāṇa) exists in the world. Therefore, a person should show compassion (dayā) towards others, just as they would towards their own self (ātman).
