महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-53, verse-13

निमित्तं ब्राह्मण इति तस्मै वित्तं ददौ बहु ।
ततश्चकारावभृथं विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा ॥१३॥

13. nimittaṁ brāhmaṇa iti tasmai vittaṁ dadau bahu ,
tataścakārāvabhṛthaṁ vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā.

13. Considering him (Āstīka) as the Brahmin who was the cause (for the sacrifice's cessation), he gave him much wealth. Thereafter, he performed the Avabhṛtha (final purificatory bath) with rites prescribed by the scriptures.
