मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-120, verse-18

अन्ये शरसहस्रेण शतेनान्ये नराधिपाः ।
विव्यधुः कोष्ठकीकृत्य धर्मयुद्धपराङ्मुखाः ॥१८॥
18. anye śarasahasreṇa śatenānye narādhipāḥ .
vivyadhuḥ koṣṭhakīkṛtya dharmayuddhaparāṅmukhāḥ.

vivyathuḥ koṣṭhakīkṛtya dharma-yuddha-parāṅmukhāḥ
18. Other kings, deviating from the principles of righteous warfare (dharma-yuddha), pierced him with thousands of arrows, while still others used hundreds, making him a confined target.
