महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-9, chapter-46, verse-9

समागम्य ततः सर्वे वरुणं सागरालयम् ।
अपां पतिं प्रचक्रुर्हि विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा ॥९॥
9. samāgamya tataḥ sarve varuṇaṁ sāgarālayam ,
apāṁ patiṁ pracakrurhi vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā.

apām patim pracakruḥ hi vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā
9. sarve samāgamya tataḥ sāgarālayam apām patim

9. Then, having gathered together, all of them indeed appointed Varuna, who resides in the ocean and is the lord of waters, through a ritual (karma) prescribed by sacred law (dharma).
