A swan (haṃsa) rising from the water does not lift one foot, signifying its inherent connection (to Brahman). If that constant performer of `yajña` (ṛtvijam) were not (eternal), then neither death nor immortality would exist. Yogis (yoginaḥ) perceive that eternal (sanātana) divine being (bhagavantam).
