महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-66, verse-7

प्रतिपत्कलुषेवेन्दोर्लेखा नाति विराजते ।
न चास्या नश्यते रूपं वपुर्मलसमाचितम् ।
असंस्कृतमपि व्यक्तं भाति काञ्चनसंनिभम् ॥७॥
7. pratipatkaluṣevendorlekhā nāti virājate ,
na cāsyā naśyate rūpaṁ vapurmalasamācitam ,
asaṁskṛtamapi vyaktaṁ bhāti kāñcanasaṁnibham.
7. pratipatkaluṣe iva indoḥ lekhā na
ati virājate na ca asyāḥ naśyate
rūpam vapuḥ malasamacitam asaṃskṛtam
api vyaktam bhāti kāñcanasaṃnibham
7. Like the faint line of the moon on the first day of the lunar fortnight, her beauty does not excessively shine. Yet, her form, though covered with dirt, does not perish. Even unadorned, her body (vapus) clearly shines, resembling gold.
