महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-177, verse-16

वक्त्रेणोत्पलनालेन यथोर्ध्वं जलमाददेत् ।
तथा पवनसंयुक्तः पादैः पिबति पादपः ॥१६॥

tathā pavanasaṁyuktaḥ pādaiḥ pibati pādapaḥ.

16. Just as one might draw water upwards with a lotus stalk (mouth), so too does a tree (pādapa), aided by the wind, drink water through its roots.
