श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
यदा ह्यस्तंगतप्रायं जातं चित्तं विचारतः ।
तदा हि वीतहव्यस्य जाता मैत्र्यादयो गुणाः ॥ १ ॥
यदा ह्यस्तंगतप्रायं जातं चित्तं विचारतः ।
तदा हि वीतहव्यस्य जाता मैत्र्यादयो गुणाः ॥ १ ॥
śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca ,
yadā hyastaṃgataprāyaṃ jātaṃ cittaṃ vicārataḥ ,
tadā hi vītahavyasya jātā maitryādayo guṇāḥ 1
yadā hyastaṃgataprāyaṃ jātaṃ cittaṃ vicārataḥ ,
tadā hi vītahavyasya jātā maitryādayo guṇāḥ 1

Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: 'Indeed, when the mind (citta) of Vītahavya had almost completely subsided through proper inquiry (vicāra), then virtues such as friendliness, among others, arose in him.'
