वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-1, chapter-19, verse-21

न शक्ता रावणं सोढुं किं पुनर्मानवा युधि ।
स हि वीर्यवतां वीर्यमादत्ते युधि राक्षसः ॥२१॥
21. na śaktā rāvaṇaṃ soḍhuṃ kiṃ punarmānavā yudhi ,
sa hi vīryavatāṃ vīryamādatte yudhi rākṣasaḥ.
21. na śaktāḥ rāvaṇam soḍhum kim punaḥ mānavāḥ yudhi
sa hi vīryavatām vīryam ādatte yudhi rākṣasaḥ
21. rāvaṇam soḍhum na śaktāḥ,
kim punaḥ mānavāḥ yudhi? hi sa rākṣasaḥ yudhi vīryavatām vīryam ādatte.
21. They (gods, demons, etc.) are not able to withstand Rāvaṇa; how much less then can humans do so in battle? For that demon (rākṣasa) indeed seizes the strength of the powerful in combat.
