वैशंपायन उवाच ।
एवमुक्तास्तु ते तेन पौरजानपदा जनाः ।
वृद्धेन राज्ञा कौरव्य नष्टसंज्ञा इवाभवन् ॥१॥

Vaiśaṃpāyana said: 'O scion of Kuru, when those citizens and country folk were thus addressed by that aged king, they became as if deprived of their consciousness.'
