When, in deep sleep (suṣupte), that element of life (jīva-dhātu) is moved by the tranquil (saumyatām yātaiḥ) vital breaths (prāṇaiḥ), then that consciousness (saṃvit) is referred to as 'mind' (cittatayā uditā).
