वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-1, chapter-52, verse-9

गवां शतसहस्रेण दीयतां शबला मम ।
रत्नं हि भगवन्नेतद् रत्नहारी च पार्थिवः ।
तस्मान्मे शबलां देहि ममैषा धर्मतो द्विज ॥९॥
9. gavāṃ śatasahasreṇa dīyatāṃ śabalā mama ,
ratnaṃ hi bhagavannetad ratnahārī ca pārthivaḥ ,
tasmānme śabalāṃ dehi mamaiṣā dharmato dvija.
9. gavām śatasahasreṇa dīyatām śabalā
mama ratnam hi bhagavan etat
ratnahārī ca pārthivaḥ tasmāt me
śabalām dehi mama eṣā dharmataḥ dvija
9. bhagavan dvija,

9. Let Shabalā be given to me in exchange for a hundred thousand cows. Indeed, O venerable one, this is a jewel, and a king is by his intrinsic nature (dharma) a collector of jewels. Therefore, give Shabalā to me. O twice-born (dvija), by natural law (dharma), she is mine.
