मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-84, verse-13

दृष्ट्वा तु देवि कुपितं भ्रुकुटीकरालम् उद्यच्छशाङ्कसदृशच्छवि यन्न सद्यः ।
प्राणान्मुमोच महीषस्तदतीव चित्रं कैर्जीव्यते हि कुपितान्तकदर्शनेन ॥१३॥
13. dṛṣṭvā tu devi kupitaṃ bhrukuṭīkarālam udyacchaśāṅkasadṛśacchavi yanna sadyaḥ .
prāṇānmumoca mahīṣastadatīva citraṃ kairjīvyate hi kupitāntakadarśanena.

udyacchasaśāṅkasadṛśacchavi yat na sadyaḥ
prāṇān mumoca mahīṣaḥ tat atīva citram
kaiḥ jīvyate hi kupitāntakadarśanena
13. O Goddess, it is exceedingly astonishing that the buffalo demon (Mahiṣa), even after seeing your enraged form, which was dreadful with a frown and radiant like the rising moon, did not immediately relinquish his life. For indeed, by whom can life be sustained after witnessing an enraged god of death (Antaka)?
