महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-116, verse-1

अकृतव्रण उवाच ।
स वेदाध्ययने युक्तो जमदग्निर्महातपाः ।
तपस्तेपे ततो देवान्नियमाद्वशमानयत् ॥१॥
1. akṛtavraṇa uvāca ,
sa vedādhyayane yukto jamadagnirmahātapāḥ ,
tapastepe tato devānniyamādvaśamānayat.

mahātapaḥ tapaḥ tepe tataḥ devān niyamāt vaśam ānayat
1. Akritavrana said: "Jamadagni, who was devoted to the study of the Vedas and possessed great ascetic power (tapas), performed severe asceticism (tapas). Then, through his disciplined practices, he brought the gods under his control."
