महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-105, verse-19

अथापश्यन्त ते वीराः पृथिवीमवदारिताम् ।
समासाद्य बिलं तच्च खनन्तः सगरात्मजाः ।
कुद्दालैर्ह्रेषुकैश्चैव समुद्रमखनंस्तदा ॥१९॥
19. athāpaśyanta te vīrāḥ pṛthivīmavadāritām ,
samāsādya bilaṁ tacca khanantaḥ sagarātmajāḥ ,
kuddālairhreṣukaiścaiva samudramakhanaṁstadā.
19. atha apaśyanta te vīrāḥ pṛthivīm
avadāritām samāsādya bilam tat ca
khanantaḥ sagarātmajāḥ kuddālaiḥ
hreṣukaiḥ ca eva samudram akhanan tadā
19. Then, those heroes saw the earth torn open. Having reached that cavern, the sons of Sagara, while digging, then indeed dug the ocean (samudra) with pickaxes and shovels.
