महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-180, verse-1

भृगुरुवाच ।
न प्रणाशोऽस्ति जीवानां दत्तस्य च कृतस्य च ।
याति देहान्तरं प्राणी शरीरं तु विशीर्यते ॥१॥
1. bhṛguruvāca ,
na praṇāśo'sti jīvānāṁ dattasya ca kṛtasya ca ,
yāti dehāntaraṁ prāṇī śarīraṁ tu viśīryate.
1. bhṛguḥ uvāca na praṇāśaḥ asti jīvānām dattasya ca
kṛtasya ca yāti dehāntaram prāṇī śarīram tu viśīryate
1. bhṛguḥ uvāca jīvānām,
dattasya ca kṛtasya ca,
praṇāśaḥ na asti prāṇī dehāntaram yāti,
tu śarīram viśīryate
1. Bhṛgu said: There is no destruction for living beings (jīva), nor for what has been given (as charity) or performed (as actions/karma). The living entity (prāṇī) merely moves to another body, while the physical body certainly disintegrates.
