वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-1, chapter-36, verse-12

देवतानां प्रतिज्ञाय गङ्गामभ्येत्य पावकः ।
गर्भं धारय वै देवि देवतानामिदं प्रियम् ॥१२॥
12. devatānāṃ pratijñāya gaṅgāmabhyetya pāvakaḥ ,
garbhaṃ dhāraya vai devi devatānāmidaṃ priyam.

12. Having made a promise to the gods, Agni (pāvakaḥ) approached Gaṅgā. (He said to her,) 'O goddess, indeed, bear this embryo (garbham); this is pleasing to the gods.'
