मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-109, verse-18

आत्मनो हितमन्विच्छन्बाधते योऽपरं नरः ।
कर्तव्या मूढविज्ञाने दया तत्र दयालुभिः ॥१८॥
18. ātmano hitamanvicchanbādhate yo'paraṃ naraḥ .
kartavyā mūḍhavijñāne dayā tatra dayālubhiḥ.

kartavyā mūḍhavijñāne dayā tatra dayālubhiḥ
18. A person who, desiring his own welfare (ātman), harms another, should be shown compassion by compassionate individuals, for his understanding is deluded.
