महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-25, verse-14

ब्राह्मणाः साग्निहोत्राश्च तथैव च निरग्नयः ।
स्वाध्यायिनो भिक्षवश्च सजपा वनवासिनः ॥१४॥
14. brāhmaṇāḥ sāgnihotrāśca tathaiva ca niragnayaḥ ,
svādhyāyino bhikṣavaśca sajapā vanavāsinaḥ.

svādhyāyinaḥ bhikṣavaḥ ca sa japāḥ vanavāsinaḥ
14. There were brahmins who maintained their sacred fires (agnihotra) and also those who did not, those who diligently studied the Vedas (svādhyāyin), mendicants (bhikṣu), and forest dwellers (vanavāsin) who recited mantras (japa).
