महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-242, verse-18

ते त्वर्चिता यथाशास्त्रं यथावर्णं यथाक्रमम् ।
मुदा परमया युक्ताः प्रीत्या चापि नरेश्वर ॥१८॥
18. te tvarcitā yathāśāstraṁ yathāvarṇaṁ yathākramam ,
mudā paramayā yuktāḥ prītyā cāpi nareśvara.
18. te tu arcitāḥ yathāśāstram yathāvarṇam yathākramam
mudā paramayā yuktāḥ prītyā ca api nareśvara
18. And they, O king of men, were worshipped according to the scriptures, their class (varṇa), and their proper order, endowed with great joy and affection.
