महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-202, verse-16

नाक्रामन्ति यदा शापा बाणा मुक्ताः शिलास्विव ।
नियमांस्तदा परित्यज्य व्यद्रवन्त द्विजातयः ॥१६॥
16. nākrāmanti yadā śāpā bāṇā muktāḥ śilāsviva ,
niyamāṁstadā parityajya vyadravanta dvijātayaḥ.
16. na ākrāmanti yadā śāpāḥ bāṇāḥ muktāḥ śilāsu iva
niyamān tadā parityajya vyadravanta dvijātayaḥ
16. When the curses did not overcome [the demons], just like arrows released against stones, then the twice-born (dvijātayaḥ) abandoned their vows and practices (niyamān) and fled.
