दुर्गा-सप्तशती       durgā-saptaśatī - chapter-3, verse-21

एवं संक्षीयमाणे तु स्वसैन्ये महिषासुरः ।
माहिषेण स्वरूपेण त्रासयामास तान् गणान् ॥२१॥
21. evaṃ saṃkṣīyamāṇe tu svasainye mahiṣāsuraḥ .

21. In this way, as his own army was being destroyed, the demon Mahiṣa (Mahiṣāsura), assuming his buffalo form, began to terrorize those hosts (gaṇa).
