ओजत्वेन समत्वेन सयातीये उभे यदि ।
तर्हि संख्ये योजयीत वैजात्ये तु वियोजयेत् ॥१३॥

If both (the counts derived for the birth ascendant and Horā-lagna) are of the same nature, meaning both are derived from odd signs or both from even signs, then one should add the two numbers. However, if they are of different natures (one from an odd sign, one from an even), one should subtract them.
