महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-100, verse-6

एवं क्रमेण सर्वांस्तानाश्रमान्दानवास्तदा ।
निशायां परिधावन्ति मत्ता भुजबलाश्रयात् ।
कालोपसृष्टाः कालेया घ्नन्तो द्विजगणान्बहून् ॥६॥
6. evaṁ krameṇa sarvāṁstānāśramāndānavāstadā ,
niśāyāṁ paridhāvanti mattā bhujabalāśrayāt ,
kālopasṛṣṭāḥ kāleyā ghnanto dvijagaṇānbahūn.
6. evam krameṇa sarvān tān āśramān
dānavāḥ tadā niśāyām paridhāvanti mattāḥ
bhuja-bala-āśrayāt kāla-upasṛṣṭāḥ
kāleyāḥ ghnantaḥ dvija-gaṇān bahūn
6. Thus, in this manner, those Dānavas, the Kāleyas, afflicted by time (kāla), would then roam about at night through all those hermitages (āśrama), intoxicated by the strength of their arms, killing many groups of Brahmins (dvija).
